Maintaining a Safe Environment for Young People in the Belfry

Ringers do not operate in isolation.  The Tower Stewardship Committee was formed in 2006 in order to give guidance in the general areas of tower management within the wider community recognising Church and Common Law.

The Incumbent, Churchwardens and PCC of any Parish have a legal and primary responsibility to maintain a safe environment for all people in the Tower and elsewhere on Church premises and this entails particular actions in the case of children and young people.

The Tower Stewardship Committee has produced a set of Guidance Notes on Child Protection in Towers, and the leaflet 'Protecting Young Ringers', issued by the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers, outlines the actions necessary for maintaining that safe environment.

The Tower Captain should also be aware of, and work in accordance with, his/her Parish Child Protection Policy.
