Theft of Metals
In the last year, there has been a marked increase in the theft of metal from churches. Where the church is a listed building, repair or damage caused to the fabric (including replacement of stolen metals) as a result of these thefts, is eligible expenditure under the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme. www.lpwscheme.org.uk
In the majority of cases, the cost of such damages will be met by insurers, however these will usually exclude the VAT amount, which should be reclaimed through this scheme. You should ensure that the invoice supporting the claim is not addressed to the insurance company, but to the church, or relevant contact within the church. If however, you are not covered by Insurance, you can still reclaim the entire VAT amount through this scheme.
