Guidance on Maintaining your Church Heating System
Are you fortunate enough to have a reasonably effective heating system in your church?
If so, then you are in charge of a very important asset that should be cherished.
Some PCCs adopt an “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” attitude. This is a false economy as the efficiencies of boilers, particularly oil fired units, can deteriorate with use which results in the burning of more oil or gas to keep your church warm.
The DAC would like to recommend that all boilers should be serviced and adjusted for efficiency annually and the heating systems checked for leaks, air locks and external corrosion.
Many expensive breakdowns can be avoided if a fault is identified early before a catastrophic failure occurs – usually immediately prior to a major festival!
Servicing should be undertaken by a competent and qualified heating engineer. For gas fired boilers the engineer must have the relevant CORGI qualification and for oil the OFTEC registration is required.
Looked after properly a good heating system should give many years of trouble free service.
