Darfur Appeal

Diocese of El Obeid, Northern Sudan

The Diocese of Bradford has a Link with the four dioceses of Northern Sudan, Khartoum, El Obeid, Kadugli and Port Sudan. The great humanitarian crisis reported in the worldwide news is in the Darfur area of the El Obeid diocese. We are entering into a partnership with the Mother’s Union to respond to a particular request.

Wilson Kamani, the Relief and Development Officer for the Province of Sudan, has visited Darfur and made an appeal to us for help. The Episcopal Church in Sudan’s relief agency, SUDRA, has pledged to provide emergency aid for expectant and nursing mothers in the Displaced Persons Area in Darfur called Kass which has approximately 1,000 households.

They have asked the Diocese of Bradford and the Mother’s Union Worldwide Relief Fund to help by funding one co-ordinator and five volunteers for two months. With our funding they will provide:

The total cost of this is £30,000. If more is raised more families can be helped.

We know that many of you will have responded to our general request to send money to the Joint Charities Appeal. We hope that you will also be able to respond to this specific request so that the local Christians in El Obeid can be seen to be helping brothers and sisters in need.
