For the last seven years David has been working in mission in the Diocese of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania - sent with CMS from Leicester Diocese. He is married to Elaine, a secondary school Biology teacher who has been working in HIV education in rural communities in Tanzania. They have three children: Sam (14), Jess (12) and Jonny (9).
David says, "We approach this new chapter in our lives with a desire to serve God and the people of Upper Wharfedale. We feel excited and nervous too; we take confidence in a sense of God's calling and leading. We feel very blessed to be working in such a beautiful area of the Yorkshire Dales. In Tanzania we lived in the snow-capped shadow of Africa's highest mountain - it would be hard to think of a more beautiful place - but mission in Kilimanjaro brought its own challenges and we are aware that this new chapter of our lives will not be without its own."
In Tanzania David was Vicar of St Margaret's, Moshi and Resident Priest in the Leicester Diocese/Diocese of Mount Kilimanjaro Link Partnership. For the last two years he was also Rural Dean of the Kilimanjaro Deanery, supporting and developing ministry and mission in the local Swahili-speaking Anglican churches.
David was originally a secondary school teacher of English, Drama and Media Studies. After training for the ministry at St John's College, Nottingham he served his curacy at Emmanuel, Loughborough with St Mary-in-Charnwood in the Diocese of Leicester.
His hobbies include rugby, fly-fishing and walking.
The licensing will take place on Thursday 26 November at 7.30pm
