'THE WAVE' CLIMATE SERVICE AND MARCH, 5 DECEMBER, LONDON CAN YOU HELP?
This December world leaders meet in Copenhagen for historic climate change talks. We'll be giving them a send-off they can't ignore - a human wave of tens of thousands of people flowing through London in support for climate justice for all God's creation. If you care -- be there!
CEL is helping other Christian environment and development organizations to organize a service of worship at Central Hall, Westminster with the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Archbishop of Westminster, the President of the Methodist Conference and other church leaders. After the Service we will walk to join the main Stop Climate March and march with them to the river bridges and Embankment opposite Parliament.
HELP NEEDED ON DECEMBER 5 We need volunteers to act as stewards both at Central Hall and on the March. The Service starts at 11am and we need people there from 10am to help prepare, and then to help clear at the end just after 12 noon. 3. OPERATION NOAH PETITION Please sign the Operation Noah petition to the Prime Minister requesting that he secures a deal at Copenhagen to cut power station emissions worldwide by 30 by 2020 and to zero by 2030: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/ARKcampaign/
We believe that focusing on a specific demand that would achieve real cuts in emissions reinforces the message that Copenhagen must produce an agreement that genuinely and severely limits fossil fuel use. Such an agreement would also allows us to hold our leaders to account against the agreed targets.
4. CLIMATE CHANGE DAY OF PRAYER At the end of the week when the Met Office announced that there could be world temperature rises of 4°C within the next 50 years, over 50 "Days of Prayer" were held throughout UK on 4 Oct. There's still time to run one before Copenhagen! www.christian-ecology.org.uk
