The CMER Form

Reader Ministry

There are about 130 active Readers in the Bradford Diocese and they exercise a vital and important ministry. Readers do much more than preach and lead services; they are usually involved in other areas of parish life such as pastoral care or evangelism and by virtue of their training they are a valuable theological resource. Anyone interested in exploring Reader ministry should talk to their incumbent or minister in the first instance since trainee-Readers must be nominated by their incumbent and PCC. Further information is contained in the Reader Booklet which may be downloaded from this site.

After a selection process the training is normally three years although if somone has previous relevant studies which can be taken into account this may be shortened. Bradford Diocese currently uses a Foundation Degree in Theology & Ministry for the academic aspect of the training and details of this may be found on this website on the Ministry & Mission homepage. In addition, trainee-Readers are required to attend an annual weekend at Parcevall Hall plus two Quiet Days each year.

The Revd Chris Shedd is Warden of Readers and most queries about Reader ministry can be directed to her. Specific queries about training can be directed to Canon Steve Allen.

Please note

The information for nominating potential new Readers is in the clergy mailing. If you'd like further information, please get in
