BCDDWho we are

The vision for Bradford Churches for Dialogue and Diversity (BCDD) is to enable human flourishing in the context of religious diversity.  BCDD engages in training and promotes partnerships between faith communities, supporting the development of neighbourhood activities that help people build skills, confidence and relationships which multi-faith communities need to thrive.

BCDD is an ecumenical charity based in the city of Bradford, extending its work along the M62 corridor. It works with Christian denominations, Muslim, Hindu and Sikh groups, inter faith bodies, community groups as well as voluntary agencies and public bodies.

If you would like more general information about our organisation or want to find out more about what we can offer you please fel free to contact the office and we will be happy to help.

What we do

Bradford’s social history has enabled it to gain unique expertise to offer insight into how to live and work in a multi faith environment, particularly in relation to Christian /Muslim relations.  BCDD doesn’t offer “off the peg” solutions but rather deploys a range of expertise so that a tailored learning experience takes place enabling those participating to work out God’s calling in a particular situation.

BCDD works in three critical areas:

  • Resourcing and providing learning opportunities for key groups: faith leaders, youth leaders, grassroots activists and volunteers, in their engagement in multi faith areas.
  • Building relationships between different faith groups leading to joint social actions which have a practical impact in local neighbourhoods.
  • Working in the public sphere to increase religious literacy and cross faith association.

BCDD is one of four Presence and Engagement Centres.  These were set up by the Church of England to be a resource for parishes who found themselves as the minority religion in their geographical areas.

In 2011 BCDD was selected to host the Near Neighbours initiative, funded by DCLG, which is working in areas of Bradford, Oldham and Burnley.  The aim of Near Neighbours is to bring people together who are near neighbours in communities that are religiously and ethnically diverse so that they can get to know each other better, build relationships of trust and collaborate together on initiatives that improve the local community they live in.
