Wellsprings: Project-Based Community Development
Wellsprings (Bradford) Limited
Wellsprings is a local charity established to help the Church respond to social need; supporting and initiating projects and partnerships which practically serve people on the margins.
Wellsprings is currently awaiting approval by the Charities Commission to become a Joint Venture with the Church Urban Fund. This development will enable greater networking and financial resourcing of projects across the district. The name will then become Wellsprings Together Bradford.
The following initiatives are presently being supported by Wellsprings:
@the Bus Stop is a mobile youth club on a converted bus, working in areas which suffer from youth crime, deprivation and low aspiration, providing a safe place for young people where there is little or no youth provision. It works in partnership with e:merge, Holme Wood Christian Centre, Bradford Diocese, local churches, the police and PCT.
Inn Churches - this winter shelter project houses the homeless in churches overnight during the three coldest winter months.
Initiated by CIW, Inn Churches wrapped up its 3rd winter season in February 2012. There were 9 hosting churches with 430 registered volunteers from 70+ churches. Generous grants and church and individual donations have been received and a particular side-line of the project has been distributing Starter Packs for homeless individuals who are moving into housing. Inn Churches Halifax launched their shelter project this winter with direct support from the Bradford project.
